The 15th edition of the National Alzheimer’s Conference in Romania (CNAlz2025) took place in Bucharest from 4 to 6 June 2025. The event was organised by the Romanian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology together with the Romanian Alzheimer Society. This year, the theme was “Prevention in Neurodegeneration. Updates related to Dementias. National Plan for Dementia as a Medical and Social Priority”.
As part of their mission to promote healthy ageing and improve the quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s and their families, the conference brought together over 329 experts. Specialists from neurology, psychiatry, geriatric care, family medicine, and public health all attended.
SESSIONS and the COMFORTage presentation
The conference featured key sessions on brain health, frailty, neurocognitive decline, cognitive and behavioural disorders, prevention, policy-making, medical care, psychogeriatrics, and patient-centred care for older adults. Other topics included integrated research, European projects, innovative solutions, and multidisciplinary approaches to improve care management for older adults.
Dr. Razvan Ioan Trascu and Prof. Dr. Luiza Spiru were invited to share insights from the Ana Aslan International Foundation, a key partner in COMFORTage project . The Foundation leads Pilot 9: Digital Frailty and Dementia Care Intervention in Romania). Their lecture was part of “Session XV, dedicated to Longevity, Ethics and Integrated Interventions in Older Adults Care”.
They delivered a 15-minute presentation focusing on the legal and ethical challenges in Horizon research projects, especially those linked to national regulatory differences. A Q&A session followed. Although initially scheduled for just a few minutes, the conversation quickly became very lively. Presenting COMFORTage’s ethical approval in the context of cross-border research sparked further interest in the clinical protocol, research objectives, and potential benefits.
Many healthcare professionals in the audience asked practical questions about how they could offer their patients access to COMFORTage products and services.
The session also featured works from Prof. Univ. Dr. Luiza Spiru (president of Ana Aslan International Foundation), Dr. Daciana Toma (vice-president of the National Society of Family Medicine in Romania), and Prof. Dr. Adela Iancu (University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila”, Bucharest).
