COMFORTage: Advancing digital health for healthy ageing

On 24 September 2025, the COMFORTage consortium held its first Project Review (M18) with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) and external reviewers. The meeting was a milestone moment to reflect on progress, evaluate results, and set the course for the next phase of this ambitious EU-funded initiative.

A general vision and strong coordination

COMFORTage is a Horizon Europe project (founded by the Silver Deal Call) designed to improve the quality of life of older adults through innovative digital health solutions. Coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of academic, clinical, technological, and industry partners, the project is building a collaborative framework to support healthy ageing in Europe.

At the review meeting, the coordination team presented a clear project vision, demonstrating how joint efforts ensure scientific rigour, technological innovation, and ethical responsibility.

A review of all Work Packages (WP1 – WP9)

The session provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s Work Packages, covering:

  • Research and technical development of digital twins, intelligent assessment tools, and explainable AI.
  • Clinical validation through pilot studies across Europe.
  • Ethics to guarantee inclusiveness, gender balance, and trust in AI-driven health solutions.
  • Communication and dissemination to engage stakeholders and raise awareness.
  • Exploitation and market impact to ensure sustainability and alignment with real-world needs.

Co-creation and social learning with stakeholders

A core strength of COMFORTage is its co-creation and social learning methodologies. With 13 pilot sites across Europe, the consortium actively involves stakeholders, from clinicians and researchers to patients and caregivers, in shaping solutions that respond to real-life needs.

This participatory approach ensures that technologies are not only scientifically sound but also usable, trustworthy, and widely accepted by those who need them most.

Looking ahead

Reviewers praised the robust results, the ethical and inclusive approach, and the high-quality collaboration across the consortium. With this endorsement, COMFORTage moves confidently into its next pase, scaling innovation, strengthening evidence, and preparing for long-term impact.

COMFORTage reaffirms its mission: to deliver digital, ethical, and sustainable solutions that support older adults in living healthier, more independent, and fulfilling lives.
