COMFORTage at the HumAIne and EUList Workshop: Advancing AI in Education and Healthcare

COMFORTage participated on the panel discussions of the “HumAIne and EUList Workshop: AI and Emerging Tech in Education” focusing on three main key areas of common interest with the other projects.

The continuous relation between the University of Piraeus (Coordinator of COMFORTage) and the National Technical  University  of  Athens  has  grown  into  a  fruitful  collaboration  concerning  critical developments  within  the  field  of  Artificial Intelligence. In that direction, key insights, uptakes and best practices were presented through several EU projects.

Focused topics:

  • Dissemination of AI technologies and best practices

Where key aspects on ethical considerations, data privacy, and scalability of AI solutions were discussed and their implication in education, training and raising of awareness through open discussions, presentations, and workshops was analyzed.

Specific emphasis was placed mainly on finding optimal ways in which AI tools could be integrated  into  prevailing  educational  frameworks  while  considering  th needs  of educators and learners. Through the event, the two main organizations (UPRC and NTUA) aimed to foster a community of practice that will continue to drive future research and collaboration in this critical area.

The COMFORTage project actively participated in this topic by sharing its vision for a wider Community of Stakeholders and Adopters of AI, as well as its activities towards fostering synergies and clusters that focus on unpacking the potential of AI in the modern societies.

  • AI and Data: The road ahead

Discussion pointed out that new methods are required in the research and exploitation of data both for research and for innovation. Contributing individuals underscored that such challenges are  effectively  surmounted  through  collective  effort  and  that  standardization  processes  are possible  only  through  broad  efforts  from  academia,  industry,  and  government.

Our project presented its holistic approach for the integration, use and sharing of integrated healthcare data through the realization of Holistic Health Records (HHRs). On top of this, its AI-based tools (e.g., Patient Digital Twins (PDts) and Decision Support System (DSS)) demonstrate a clear roadmap of how digital transformation can revolutionize the healthcare domain.

  • Standardization and future directions

Policies  and  technological  developments  in  Europe should focus more on the standardization activities.  Especially with the emerging discussions of the European Data Spaces initiatives harmonized structure for data sharing and management across  Europe is a mandate.

The project emphasizes the need for improved standardization activities especially within the healthcare domain, as well as its key objective for the implementation of an Ageing-Data Space (focused on dementia and frailty) and its compliance with the EHDS.
